Description
Under the supervision of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisory officer in the Fish and Wildlife Program, Department of Environmental Protection, performs various unskilled and semi-skilled work involved in fish and game propagation, growth and health maintenance, resource inventories, fish and game distribution, user surveys, habitat management and performs routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds; does other related work.
Specific to Position
This position is for the Day Shift 7 AM - 3:30 PM, including holidays and overtime. The position is essential and includes working weekends and other shifts to maintain staffing at the facility in all weather conditions and emergencies. Individual will be responsible for well-being of fish, maintaining uninterrupted operation of hatchery systems and security of buildings and grounds. Job duties include cleaning tanks, removing and recording of any fish mortality, feeding fish, netting ponds, stocking fish and any maintenance activities required to keep the facility fully functional. Individual will report emerging hatchery conditions that threaten fish stock to supervisors, respond to alarms and take temporary action as appropriate and directed. Job duties involve working outside under a variety of adverse weather conditions and is physically demanding.
Preferred Skill Set
Familiarity with hatchery and/or fisheries background, ability to work in all types of weather conditions; ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Requirements
SPECIAL NOTE:
Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
Appointee may be required to obtain a valid New Jersey boat operator's license.
